Are you overworking?

Workplace burnout is slowly becoming a global phenomenon. The World Health Organisation recently added burnout to a list of occupational phenomenon. Though it may not be considered as a disease, it is still considered an epidemic for which thousands of workers worldwide seek medical advice. Many workers find it impossible to distance themselves from work due to pressure.

A report points out that Australian workers are completing 312 hours of unpaid overtime per year. This adds up to two months per worker annually. And in the US, workplace burnout is the fifth-leading cause of death — ahead of Alzheimer’s and kidney disease.

Overworking results in stress, sleep loss, obesity and heart disease. A study found that white-collar workers who worked 3 or more hours of overtime a day had a 60% higher risk of heart-related problems than white-collar workers who didn’t work overtime. Unfortunately, more input doesn’t always result in more output. Another study found that in an 8-hour workday, most people are productive between hours 2 and 6, and by hour 9, fatigue sets in and productivity levels drop.

Organizations worldwide embraced technology in the ’80s to help workers perform their tasks fast and accurate, thereby reducing work-related stress and tension. But strangely, it is the same technology that is causing stress. So, over the years, has technology succeeded in reducing employees’ workload?

No. On the one hand, it helped employees to work faster and organizations to boost their productivity. On the other, it also brought about constant pressure in terms of compliance training, skills up-gradation, version upgrade, constant pressure to be online with geographically dispersed colleagues, etc. There is nothing that you could do to change any of these. But, you can at least choose technology wisely which can reduce your workload. That’s why we created Clariti.

Clariti’s simplicity begins from the cloud, which means there is no installation and maintenance needed from your end. Clariti’s features include chat, email, to-do’s, twitter feeds and cloud file storage. By supporting all work activities in one app, Clariti seamlessly connects related activities from different mediums through context-based threads. Let’s example, if you want to share an email you received from someone with a colleague and chat about it, you don’t have to forward the email and then have a chat from a separate app. You can simply start chatting right from the email with your colleague and she will see the email and your chat along with it. This preserves context and makes the chat far more effective than just a disconnected event.

Besides context-based threads, Clariti includes To-Do’s that are linked to a context like a chat, email or document for example. This link helps you remember the reason why you put the To-Do in the first place when the time comes to act on it.

Features like these help employees reduce overload on their memory, reducing stress and making their work more effective.

Get smart with Clariti. Try now. It’s easy and free!
